The Summer Drags On...

Happy Dutch Bros Pumpkin Day, Reader!

That's right, this season of suffering is rapidly coming to an end. Between the difficulty breathing with the smoke, the profuse sweating through clothing, sutures that rub against the lace up brace, and learning to walk with metal in my ankle, it's been tougher than normal. Add in the state of the world and there's not much to look forward to as AI pushes authors online into oblivion.

Not to steal from Lee Jennings of The Funeral Portrait but, "These dark, dark thoughts in my mind." But there is light! It's orange, round, and seasoned with cinnamon, nutmeg and clove!

Awkward segue!

Welcome new fur-iends! I'm Noelle, I write thriller, mystery, romance, and basically anything I want under the Perry Dog Publishing umbrella as E. N. Crane and Noelle Rider, as long as there's dogs, coffee, and sarcasm, the genre means nothing to me.

I'm the only human employee of Perry Dog Publishing. The other employees are Perry (obvs), CEO and character art model for Winnie, and Padfoot, CCO and the character art model for Ruger and Grim.

I write plus-size, caffeine addictive, pet-loving women who are smart, sassy, and pain-in-the-ass-y. LOL. But accurate. We're also all "woke", mostly because it's hard to sleep with all the coffee and whatnot.

I'm a plus-sized, neuro-divergent dog mom, city government employee, wife, reader, and step-ladder substitute for short people who need help. I love coffee, Peeps, cheese, wine and dogs.

It's been over two months since I sent a newsletter so if you are like "how did I get here?", I can't tell you. I also don't know how I got here. I spend most of my time on Hello Kitty Friendship Island these days, questing for friendship and a non-capitalist lifestyle.

E. N. Crane is a Bouchercon Panelist!

That's right, I'm officially cool! Pretty sure I was invited because someone cancelled and I was persistent in my desire to have a job (like Perry, I don't know how to enjoy just being somewhere if no one gives me an activity to do while I'm there). We're talking about red herrings and the twists that inspire us which has led me to deep dive into my past reads to find my spark for some of the twists you see on-page in the Sharp Investigations and the Ampersand Series and finding some new stuff buried in my Kindle. If you are near Calgary and love mystery, this is THE CONVENTION for mystery lovers. Also they sent me a cool graphic!

This has me thinking back to my first Mystery / Thriller that got me into the genre. I didn't read too much my first two years of college aside from the last in series of Harry Potter books and the Anita Blake series recommended by a GTF. But a coworker (Cool Sarah, I know four Sarah's and Michael gave them all modifiers), had a whole room full of books and when I was in a huge slump and burnt out on everything, she gifted me a new genre via: Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum Series and Harlan Coben's Myron Bolitaire Series. We also tried Tim Dorsey, but I was as confused as I was reading Catch 22 and had to throw in the pineapple). Then I dived hard into Harry Bosch via a gifted copy of the Last Coyote from a coworker's discard pile, and JD Robb's "In Death" series from a grocery store bargain bin.

So... if you're hear for the mystery / thriller genre, I need to know: what was the book that hooked you on the genre and what keeps you coming back?

My recent read that I guessed the twist very early on but still loved: The Rookie by Katrina Kyle

Also, I've decided that Licking Crash Landings will be out in October, coinciding with the Bouchercon! So keep an eye out for a pre-order to get the next in series and get ready to fear the machines. Automation, government and weapons are a dangerous combination.

Between a Hex and a Highlander Postponed

If you clicked on Noelle Rider on Amazon recently, you may have seen Between a Hex and a Highlander has disappeared. It has been postponed until a time when I can write a hopeful character like Lucy. She is optimistic, joyful, and dreamy and I was writing her too sarcastic and spiteful. Yes, the book starts with her suffering a loss, but at her core, she is still a hopeless romantic and it wasn't right. There were no pre-orders so... I took it down.

Instead all of my energy has been placed on Licking Crash Landings and Pucking Damned as well as getting out in the world and meeting new PAWsome readers in the book community. Speaking of Pucking Damned, please enjoy being the first to see....

Come Grab a Book in the Wild!

In a few days, my Shop is coming down again. The fees are too high, so if you wanted signed editions and you live in the US, I'm offering free shipping on all orders until it goes down on the 26th!

There's only a few month's left in the year but I'm not slowing down with getting out there and meeting new people. It is absolutely terrifying, but if you know me, you know I sign-up first and panic about it later.

August 29, 2026: Nampa Pooch Party: This is a big pool party for dogs put on by parks and rec and I'll be one of a few vendors out there with the dogs running around. Grab your table top gaming partner and come check out this awesome venue with lake views and nerdy glorious things. We have it scheduled from 1100-1600, 3000 N Lakeharbor Ln, Boise, ID 83703. We'll also have food trucks and a cool seating area to take your new book to read and snack!

October 21-25, 2026: Bouchercon: My first book event in Canada! The panel I'm in is on the first day, but I'll be around the full week trying not to be the World's Most Awkward Human(TM), but in all likelihood, many people will walk away from interacting with me feeling much better about their own social skills. More to come! No rest for the anti-AI author, just her bosses.

Thankfully, I visited home and stocked up on the essentials: La Cocina salsa and Pulchella wine. Bring it on robots. I have coffee, salsa, wine, and Sanrio.

Love,

Noelle, Perry & Padfoot

PS: Send pet pics! I miss seeing your babies.
